4 things you must do when visiting Alhaurin

The Palms Resort Spain is located in the small village of La Alqueria which belongs to the municipally of Alhaurin de la Torre. It is surrounded by a fantastic landscape of impressive mountains and deep and beautiful forests.

Once you’re done admiring the fantastic natural scenery of Alhaurin el Grande and la Torre with their majestic mountain ranges and vast fertile plains, you’ll wonder what else this rural and tranquil location has to offer.

Alhaurin el Grande and Alhaurin de la Torre are sister towns set just enough off the beaten track that you can feel separated from the hustle and bustle of the city, but can still enjoy everything civilization has to offer.

Alhaurin el Grande is a jewel set amongst natural beauty, walk to the end of just about any street, and you will be rewarded with gorgeous scenery of gentle sloping hills covered in green and bordered by tall mountain ranges in the distance. There is more to the area than gorgeous scenery, though, so here are just a few fun and interesting things to do during your stay in Alhaurin.

  1. Freedom Park

Nature lovers will love the Freedom Park, which is a newly developed area of Alhaurin that spreads over 4400m2. As you meander through the park, you will pass waterfalls, tropical gardens, and there is an entertainment area for the kids.

  1. Oriental Garden in de la Torre

It might seem odd to travel to Spain and then spend some time in a Japanese garden, but the Jardin Oriental Bienquerido is one of those things to do in Alhaurin that shouldn’t be missed.  This little park is impeccably maintained and is a beautiful location for a nice walk on a sunny afternoon. There’s a small children’s playground, adorable Japanese bridges, and tiny ponds dot the area that are home to fish and turtles.

  1. Savor the Cuisine

The Alhaurin el Grande’s cuisine includes many seafood dishes. There are quite a few restaurants, tapas bars and cafes in the area, which provide plenty of variety for your dining pleasure. One of our favorite restaurants is only a mere 5 minute walk from The Palms. Restaurante Venta la Porrita is a lovely and cozy family run restaurant that serves traditional Spanish tapas and many Mediterranean main dishes as well as healthy options. Their speciality is fish which is bought at the Malaga fish market every morning to ensure you can enjoy fresh fish every day!

  1. Historical Churches

If you’re a fan of historical architecture, then the San Sebastian Church should be on your must-see list. This centuries-old somewhat small church dates from the 15th century and features striking gold statues and a magnificent facade.

The Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de la Encarnacion is the centerpiece of a beautiful town square and surrounded by tapas bars. Behind the church is another piece of 12th-century architecture, the Arco del Cobertizo. This historical landmark formed the gateway to the Medina, was erected during the Muslim error, and was likely part of the city wall.

When you stay at The Palms Resort in Alhaurin you can visit these places most of which are free, and if you need help booking entry tickets, do come speak to us and we will arrange them for you.
